神田祭
「天下祭」として知られる神田祭は、元和年中までは船渡御であったと言われている。延宝年中までは毎年斎行されていたが、山王祭(千代田区・日枝神社)と隔年で斎行することになり、以後今日までに２年に一度斎行されることが恒例となった。 江戸幕府の庇護を受け、江戸城・内曲輪内へ、２基の神輿、３６番４５本前後の山車や附祭、御雇祭などからなる祭礼行列が練りこみ、徳川将軍や御台所の上覧があったことなどから、江戸の庶民たちからいつからか「天下祭」と称されるようになった。 また、江戸時代を通じて全国的に有名な祭のひとつとして「日本三大祭り」「江戸三大祭り」の中に数えられたている。
